It begins with a miracle. On a rainy day in Alice Springs in 2039 a fish falls like manna from heaven to bless the reunion of a father with his long lost son. Perhaps it’s a sign that the pattern of betrayal and abandonment that began on another rainy day in London in 1959 will come to an end.
Who’ll stop the rain? Andrew Bovell’s award-winning When the Rain Stops Falling is powerful storytelling in which the voices of our past echo into our future.

Join MTC for three exciting new play readings, part of the Cybec Readings series.
Play readings mark a vital point in the development of new work, giving writers a chance to hear their words spoken and see an audience respond before honing the script further. The Lawler Studio will host three play readings this November:
The Sea Project
Written by Elise Hearst
Date: 11th November 2009
Venue: MTC Theatre, Lawler Studio
Time: 7pm
Tickets: Full $10 / Conc/Under 30s $5
The Cybec Readings are proudly supported by the Cybec Foundation.
Things are washing up on the shore; suitcases, spectacles, hair, and then Eva. Bob, an unassuming type, peels Eva off a rock and takes her home. But who is Eva and where did she come from? Is she Polish? Is she a siren? Why is she missing a finger? Soon enough a man from Eva’s past, Maciek, appears with his own answers to these questions.
The Sea Project is a story of migration; histories fragmented by time, memory and the crossing of the ocean.

Date: 12th November 2009
Venue: MTC Theatre, Lawler Studio
Time: 7pm
Tickets: Full $10 / Conc/Under 30s $5

Before Cindy Ling found a dinosaur in Collingwood, a Chinese girl met an Australian boy in the Hong Kong Public Library. Before the library, there was a war to end all wars. Before the war, there was tea in the West. Before tea in the West, there was tea in the East. And before that? Plankton. Hong Kong Dinosaur. A history of love, hate, tea and plankton.

Pretty Baby
Written by Declan Greene
Date: 13th November 2009
Venue: MTC Theatre, Lawler Studio
Time: 7pm
Tickets: Full $10 / Conc/Under 30s $5
The Cybec Readings are proudly supported by the Cybec Foundation.
A housewife, for no particular reason, begins to find herself indescribably revolting. To escape her body, she consults a plastic surgeon and undergoes a series of massive physical transformations – slowly evolving into something truly monstrous.
Pretty Baby is a surreal high-speed mash-up of Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, the ‘body horror’ of David Cronenberg, and silver-screen Monster movies, satirising contemporary constructions of femininity and incising into ‘the female grotesque’.
